Christ the King Elementary: Eco-Challenge for Primary Students
Teacher: Stephanie Haines
Grade: 4
Project details
During the Earth Week competition, Mrs. Haines' class did the following:
- Participated in the Lights Off activity and used the poster provided to track their energy use over a 2-week period.
- Encouraged the entire school to do the Lights Off activity and use the posters provided. Acknowledged the class in the school that managed to reduce their use of electricity the most during Earth week.
- During earth week Mrs. Haines' class read daily announcements about ways to save energy that they had written together in small groups.
- Students played songs by Remy Rodden after each announcement.
- On Earth day the class hosted a "bring a book, take a book" activity for the whole school. Children brought in books they had already read and then chose new ones that had been donated from other kids. The class promoted it as a way of reusing books. There was a very good turn out for this event, especially from grades K-5.
- The class did a garbage clean up around the school grounds.
