Northern Climate Change Resources
Here are some northern resources to help you bring the topic of climate change alive in your classroom. Many are either free or available for the cost of production. Some of them relate to websites, which – if you have online access – can give you more information. When this is the case, the URL is also included.

In a Nutshell:
Order a FREE poster that has been specifically designed and developed for Nunavut or for the Western Arctic (Yukon and NWT). Posters, developed specifically for students, focus on the science of climate change and potential impacts in the north. |
Highlights:
- Each poster is 90cm x 150cm and has a unique design and regional focus.
- Provides basic information about the science of climate change, highlights the impacts for each region, encourages individual action to reduce GHG emissions and introduces the need for adaptation.
- The Nunavut poster is available in Inuktitut.
- The poster is accompanied by a teacher’s guide that can be downloaded from the website.

Sila Alangotok: Inuit Observations on Climate Change (Video) |

In a Nutshell:
On Banks Island in Canada’s High Arctic, the residents of Sachs Harbour have witnessed dramatic changes to their landscape and their way of life. This video documents the impacts of climate change from an Inuvialuit perspective. |
Two Videos Available:
- Summary – A 14-minute video captures the intensity and challenge of climate change in dramatic fashion. This version may be viewed directly from the CASL website at http://www.iisd.org/casl/projects/inuit_video.htm.
- Full version – The longer, 42-minute video includes: additional, in-depth observations of climate change - including the appearance of salmon, barn swallows and robins; the impacts on muskoxen and geese; interviews with science team members; archival footage; and more.
Both videos highlight traditional ways of observing to understand climate change.
